How to Choose a Physical Therapy Clinic in Sterling Heights (a Checklist)

Eight questions that separate measurement-driven care from a stretching subscription — whoever you choose.

Published Feb 2027 · Reviewed against current Michigan law and payer policy · General information, not medical or legal advice

Quick answer: the clinics worth your visits share five traits — you're seen within days, treated hands-on for 40+ minutes by the same therapist, measured objectively at start and finish, told your insurance numbers before visit one, and discharged with proof you improved. Here's the full checklist to use on anyone, including us.

The eight questions

  • How soon can I be evaluated? Days is the right answer. Musculoskeletal problems treated early recover faster; a two-week wait is a treatment decision someone made for you.
  • How long is a treatment visit, and with whom? 40–55 minutes with a consistent therapist beats 20 minutes and a hand-off to rotating staff. Ask directly how much time is one-on-one.
  • How will you measure my progress? 'How are you feeling?' is not measurement. Range-of-motion and strength numbers at baseline and discharge are.
  • Will you verify my benefits before I start? Copay, visit limit, referral rules — in writing, before visit one.
  • Who treats car accident patients' paperwork? For no-fault, ask whether they verify the claim first and document with objective testing. A clinic that shrugs at PIP will shrug at your claim.
  • What happens if I'm not improving? The right answer involves re-evaluation and plan changes — including referral out. Beware anywhere that only ever adds visits.
  • Do you communicate with my doctor? Reports should flow automatically, not on request.
  • Can I finish strong after insurance ends? Published cash rates and wellness options mean the clinic planned for your whole recovery, not just your benefits.

Red flags, briefly

Every patient on identical machines regardless of diagnosis; visit counts that always exactly match your insurance maximum; nobody can state your copay; promises of cures. None of these require bad intent — but none of them get you better faster, either.

We publish this checklist because we're happy to be graded on it. Bring it to any clinic you're considering — including ours.
