Joint Replacement Rehabilitation
Knee, hip, and shoulder replacement rehab with milestone tracking your surgeon can read at a glance.
What it is
A joint replacement trades a worn-out joint for a mechanical one — and then rehab determines how much of the promised function you actually collect. Motion in the early weeks, strength in the middle months, and confidence throughout.
We rehab replacements on criteria: target ranges and strength benchmarks for each phase, measured and recorded, with reports your surgeon receives at follow-up milestones.
Who it helps
- Total and partial knee replacement
- Total hip replacement (all approaches)
- Reverse and anatomic shoulder replacement
- Revision surgeries
- Pre-operative preparation (prehab)
Anyone scheduled for or recovering from joint replacement. Prehab deserves more attention than it gets: entering surgery stronger measurably improves early recovery.
How we assess
Protocol review, baseline motion and strength measures, swelling and gait assessment, and a milestone map — what you need to hit at two weeks, six weeks, three months.
What treatment looks like
Early: swelling control, motion restoration, and safe walking. Middle: progressive strengthening and stair/gait normalization. Late: endurance, balance, and return to the activities the new joint was for — golf, travel, floors, grandchildren.
Evidence & limitations
Supervised rehabilitation after knee replacement has strong evidence for better motion and function; hip replacement patients often need less formal therapy, and we scale accordingly rather than selling visits. A replaced joint is excellent but not original equipment — high-impact running is usually discouraged, and we are candid about realistic end points.
Questions, answered
How long is recovery?
Most knee replacement patients walk unaided within weeks and reach the large majority of their final function by three months, with gains continuing to a year. Hips are often faster. Your milestones, measured each visit, will tell the real story.
How much does it hurt?
Early rehab is uncomfortable — controlled, purposeful discomfort is part of restoring knee motion in particular. We work with your surgeon's pain-management plan and never confuse harm with hurt.
Is therapy covered after replacement?
Joint replacement rehab is a standard covered benefit under Medicare and commercial plans; we verify your visit allowance and any authorization before you start.
